Factory GM Diagnostics
Factory-level GM diagnostic software reads Duramax fault codes, injector balance rates, fuel rail pressure, and live data accurately across all generations.
LB7 & Early Generation
LB7 injector failure is the defining issue of the first Duramax. We test balance rates with factory software and replace all 8 when the data calls for it.
LML CP4 Repair
The LML's CP4 failure is catastrophic — metal throughout the fuel system. We perform complete decontamination. No shortcuts, no exceptions.

Common Duramax Problems We Fix
The Duramax is one of the most reliable diesel platforms built — but each generation has known failure patterns worth understanding before a repair bill surprises you.
LB7 (2001–2004)
- Injector failure — the LB7's defining weakness. Injectors crack internally and leak fuel into the oil. All 8 typically need replacement together. We test balance rates with factory software before recommending anything.
- Injector return line fitting failure — plastic fittings crack and cause low rail pressure. Frequently misdiagnosed as an injector problem.
LLY / LBZ / LMM (2004–2010)
- Turbocharger failure — VGT turbo actuator wear causes low power and excessive smoke. We rebuild and replace VGT actuators and inspect the full turbo.
- Injector wear — balance rate testing with factory software before any replacement recommendation.
- Head gasket concerns — on high-mileage examples, especially those that have run hot. Cooling system inspection recommended.
- Cooling system maintenance — radiator, thermostat, water pump service at manufacturer intervals.
LML (2011–2016)
- CP4 high pressure fuel pump failure — same catastrophic failure as the 6.7 Cummins and 6.7 Powerstroke. Metal contaminates the entire fuel system. Complete decontamination, new injectors, new pump, new lines. We do not cut corners on this repair.
- Low-lubricity fuel acceleration — fuel quality directly impacts CP4 longevity. We advise on fuel additives as a preventative measure.
L5P (2017–present)
- DEF and aftertreatment complexity — the most common service items on the current generation. Factory software required for accurate diagnosis.
- NOx sensor failures — cause derate conditions and fault codes. We replace NOx sensors and clear aftertreatment faults properly.
- Turbocharger inspection — recommended at high mileage as a preventative measure on the L5P platform.
