Lead Field Mechanic

We’re Hiring a field technician!

The primary function of the LFM is to perform superior quality repairs to customer equipment in the field. The LFM will work primarily on repairs and services in the field, and will report daily to the Shop Manager to go over active service order updates and assignments.

The primary function of the LFM is to perform superior quality repairs to customer vehicles while in the field and in the shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintains positive attitude.

  • Prioritizes the safety of yourself and others while in the field and shop. Receives service order assignments from Shop Manager.

  • Performs work in service order in a timely and thorough manner. Maintains superior standard of workmanship in all preventative maintenance services and failed component repairs performed.

  • Must be proficient in all shop software.

  • Communicates unresolved issues to Shop Manager for further research and assistance.

  • Advises Shop Manager of any recommended changes in services ordered by customer.

  • Determines if any further repairs or servicing should be recommended to customer and communicates such recommendations to the Shop Manager and/or Service Writer.

  • Maintains a level of training and experience with specialized equipment, machinery, and servicing techniques necessary for superior servicing of the customer's equipment. Attends training sessions as required from time to time by Service Manager or Shop Manager.

  • Repairs equipment without error and consistently within the time requirement guidelines.

  • Maintains accurate work order records of work performed and time clocked on job. Follows all warranty vendor guidelines while keeping service desk informed. Marks and retains all parts as per warranty vendor guidelines.

  • Accepts assignments and positively represents company in all directed after-hours call-out situations.

  • Keeps work area and service truck organized, functional, and clean.

  • Informs Shop Manager of any consumable items needing to be restocked on service vehicle.

  • Encourages a positive and cohesive work environment.

  • Aids and trains apprentice shop and field technicians as directed by Service Manager and Shop Manager.

  • Adheres to all customer requirements while on job site.

  • Orders parts required to complete repairs. Evaluates parts to determine reusability and cause of failure.

  • Maintains a safe workplace and places safety above all else while on the job.

  • Maintains a clean and professional looking service vehicle.

  • Communicates with Shop Manager regarding any tools and consumables needed for service vehicle in order to maintain an efficient and safe work space.

Qualifications

  • Trade School Diploma or certification in Diesel technology

  • Working knowledge of truck repair and maintenance with a focus on diesel powered vehicles

  • Two years of verifiable previous experience

  • Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and other equipment safely

  • Working knowledge of P/C and laptop computers

  • Commercial Driver's License with good driving record

  • ASE and R134 Certifications or willingness to obtain

  • Must have full set of tools, references, and provable experience

Working Conditions

This is a physically demanding position. Will stand six to eight hours per shift. Will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. Will lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds or greater. Will use hand and power tools, hoist, and test equipment. Will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, paint, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials.

Physical Demands And Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in a variety of environmental conditions, indoors and out, and includes work related travel in a company vehicle. Technician may be exposed to all types of environmental conditions, with noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust, and may work for long periods in hot, cold, wet or icy weather and high winds. Technician must be able to work with small components and be able to distinguish clearances around machinery with moving parts. Technician must be physically able to perform strenuous work and in sufficient physical condition to safely perform the duties of the position. Technician will be required to respond to call-outs and emergencies after regular working hours and on weekends and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts. Technician must possess the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if necessary.
